MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — A disabled veteran shot two people while defending himself and a pregnant woman Tuesday night.

Joshua Anderson called 911 after he shot the two people.

“It was a very big altercation. I am calling for myself because this was not good,” Anderson told the 911 dispatcher.

He was fishing under a causeway when witnesses say a fight among some local homeless men broke out.

Investigators say the pregnant woman, the girlfriend of one of the suspects, was thrown to the ground. That’s when the sheriff says Anderson stepped in.

“He saw a woman being attacked at night, and he went to her aid. In my opinion I think he did the right thing,” the sheriff said.

The two men who were shot are now in critical condition at a hospital.

The Martin County Sheriff’s office says Anderson will most likely not face any charges.
