TULSA, Okla. – A 5-year-old boy who was held in an apartment during a 17 hour standoff was found dead by police.

Around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called to the Riverchase Apartments on a call about a violation of a protection order.

When police tried to go inside the apartment, a man began shooting at them.

Authorities blocked off the area and quickly learned the man had his 5-year-old child with him.

Residents in the nearby apartments were evacuated.

The man fired at least 10 rounds at officers.

Police told KJRH that the suspect and his wife are going through a divorce, which is thought to have sparked the incident.

A police spokesperson says the man was in the military and has a history with police, but nothing of a violent nature.

Just before 11 a.m. on Friday, the alleged suspect was taken into custody.

Tragically, KJRH is reporting the man’s 5-year-old child was found dead after police began clearing the scene following the 17 hour standoff.
