ANADARKO, Okla. — Anadarko Police are investigating the death of a child who drowned in the creek at Randlett Park.

Police dispatch received a call at 7:18 p.m., on April 6, of a child who had reportedly fallen into the creek at Randell Park .

Reports say officers arrived at the scene within two minutes of the original phone call.

When they arrived, police were told that a 6-year-old boy had fallen into the creek and was still underwater.

Reports say officers worked to find where the boy was located, and pulled him out to start doing CPR.

That’s when reports say the Anadarko Fire Department arrived and took over life saving techniques in an attempt to revive the child.

Authorities say the child was transported by ambulance to the Anadarko Physicians Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m.

“This was a tragedy that none of us can train or can possibly be prepared for. There is no call for service more devastating to us than that of the death of a child. Although we were unable to save this precious life, I could not be more proud of the swift response and fearless efforts the Anadarko Police Officers took in an attempt to recover and save this boy. Without hesitation or thoughts to their personal safety they entered the water in hopes to save him, it is tragic that we just couldn’t.” – Chief Smith

The investigation of the drowning is still ongoing.
