SAND SPRINGS, Okla. – A Sand Springs police officer shot and killed a man on Saturday.

Fox23 reports that the incident took place just before 9 a.m. on Saturday in Sand Springs.

According to a press release from Sand Springs Police, officers responded to a call just after 8 a.m. Saturday of a man shooting a gun in the backyard of a residential subdivision.

When police went to the home, they encountered a man with a gun, who they say they tried to calm down.

Police say the man refused to comply with police requests to put the gun down, and even told them it was loaded.

After threatening police several times, police say they let the man retreat into his home and called the SWAT team.

They say the man confronted them again and this time, officers retreated.

At that point, according to information from police, the man rushed officers with the gun pointed.

That’s when an officer shot the man three times.

According to Fox23, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.

Authorities say the officer was not injured.
