PONTOTOC COUNTY, Okla. - An apparent love triangle led to a deadly shooting in Pontotoc County over the weekend. No arrests have been made in the case because investigators believe the shooter may have acted in self-defense.

"It's been really hard. We weren't expecting to have to bury him. He's my little brother," Wood’s older sister said.

Kyle Wood, 25, died Saturday night after being shot multiple times. His sisters asked us not to show their faces on camera, but wanted to share why they are angry.

"We really wish there would have been an arrest at least.”

According to authorities, hours before the shooting Wood and his girlfriend broke up. They say she went to stay with the father of her children, Joshua Gardner.

"Mr. Gardner the one who had called, who is also the shooter, stated that there had been some discussion during the day about Mr. Wood was threatening to come to his home and fight him," Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian said.

Wood did show up. Authorities say Wood and Gardner began fighting and Wood pushed his way inside.

"Mr. Gardner was able to retrieve a firearm and shot Mr. Wood three times," Sheriff Christian said. "I believe at that point he feared for his life.”

Investigators say Wood was shot in the arm, chest and head. Now they are trying to determine if the shooting was in self-defense.

However, Wood’s sisters are not buying a self-defense motive.

"I think it was a set up. I think she called him over there and I think he was waiting there for him," Wood’s younger sister said.

"It's hard to see it was self-defense with the different angles he was shot,” his older sister said. “It wasn't fair he was only 25.”

Four children were inside the home at the time of the shooting. They were not hurt. ,

We reached out to Gardner at his home Wednesday, but no one was there.

The OSBI has taken over the investigation. When agents are done they will hand their findings over to the DA.
