Update: One drowning victim found, one still missing in Lake Eufaula

UPDATE 4/21/15: Recovery crews have pulled the body of 23-year-old James “Mike” Giles from Lake Eufaula.

Giles and Sean McDonald were canoeing Saturday night when a storm struck.

Family members believe that’s when the men’s canoe tipped over. They found the canoe overturned in the water late Sunday night.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol says they found Giles’ body at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in about 14 feet of water.

The efforts to find McDonald have been suspended for the night and will resume at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

MCINTOSH COUNTY, Okla. — Two men have been reported missing after they went camping with two other family members Friday.

Around midnight Saturday, the James “Mike” Giles, 23, and Sean McDonald, 41, decided to go night fishing on Lake Eufaula.


The canoe that was found capsized on Lake Eufaula

A storm struck, and that’s when family members believe the men’s canoe tipped over. The family found the canoe overturned in the water late Sunday night.

Family did not alert police to what happened because they tried to search themselves, according to KJRH.

OHP responded around 6 p.m. Sunday night.

Search operations have been called off for the night. Troopers will continue looking for the men Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.
