FESTUS, Mo. (KTVI) - A 21-year-old mother is behind bars after police say she allegedly tried to blame a spider for her daughter's death.
According to the Festus Police Department, officers were called to an apartment for an unresponsive child.
The child's mother, 21-year-old Taylor Lynn Fast, told police a spider had bitten her daughter and that she was unconscious.
Officials say the child had severe injuries to her face and neck, along with bruising over most of her body.
In fact, they say the little girl looked like the victim of a car wreck.
Tragically, the child was dead when paramedics arrived.
The police chief says the child must have experienced "pure hell" in the minutes before her death, adding that it is the worst case of child abuse he has seen.
In addition to the little girl, a 3-year-old boy is being treated for a broken leg and bruises.
Fast is being charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Police are also on the lookout for Fast's boyfriend.
