PEARLAND, Texas — A Texas mother appears to smile after she is arrested in the deaths of her twin toddlers.

Barbara Ramirez-Sifuentes, 21, is charged with two counts of manslaughter after her twin 15-month-old daughters drowned in a bathtub in February.

The twins deaths were ruled homicides in March, according to KTRK.

Investigators determined the young mother “recklessly caused the deaths” by leaving them in the bathtub with the water running while she cleaned in another room.

Ramirez-Sifuentes was arrested on Mother’s Day after police issued a “be on the lookout” for the woman.

Officers say Ramirez-Sifuentes seemed oblivious as to why she was being pulled over.

“She was very surprised she was being pulled over. She didn’t know why she was being pulled over and wanted to know why there were this many patrol cars on the scene,” said Constable Phil Sandlin with the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office.

As she was handcuffed, she appeared to be smiling.

She was booked into the local jail but has since been released on a $100,000 bond.

The family insists the whole thing is just a horrible accident.
