Oklahoma Sooners running back Keith Ford announced Wednesday he’s transferring from the school.

The story was first reported by Josh McCuistion of Rivals.

Ford led the Sooners in rushing through 3 games last year before breaking his fibula against Tennessee and never seemed to get back to 100 percent last season.

The school announced in March that Ford was suspended indefinitely. Sources said it had to do with Ford’s attendance to classes.

Ford said in a statement, “The past 2 years with the Oklahoma Sooners has been a great experience, however with my injury last season I never fully recovered. Since that time I have had a chance to evaluate my role at   my family and have decided it is time to start a new chapter. Despite what the suspension was about I am currently academically eligible to transfer according to NCAA rules to another university and have been given a full release by OU. I would like to thank Coach Stoops and Coach Gundy for all of their support and I wish the Sooners the best of luck next season.”

Ford, a 5 star recruit out of Houston, struggled with fumbling throughout his career, but finishes his time with the Sooners with 86 rushes, 503 yards and 7 total touchdowns.
