“We couldn’t hold on to him any longer,” Three killed by Florida rip currents
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Three people drowned and hundreds more were rescued off beaches in Central Florida during Memorial Day weekend.
The National Weather Service issued an advisory warning of life-threatening rough surf and rip currents.
Two men attempted to save one of the drowning victims, but they had to be rescued.
Barrington said he and another Good Samaritan swam out to the victim after seeing him floating in the surf.
“We turned him over and started pulling him in, and [the water] started pulling us out, and we couldn’t hold on to him any longer,” said Steve Sweeney.
Brevard County Fire Rescue told WESH that three people drowned on Monday.
Two people who survived are in critical condition.
