SEATTLE, Wash. — A man was caught on camera smashing car windows in with a hammer Tuesday, and the news station he was attacking cars in got up close and personal with the suspect.
An employee at news station FOX Q13 saw the suspect smashing car windows in and ran inside and told someone to call 911.
News anchor David Rose went outside to make sure the suspect wasn’t harming anyone. That’s when the man walked out of the parking lot with Rose and another Q13 employee recording the scene on an iPhone behind them.
With the hammer still in his right hand, the man walked down the street as Rose tried to ask the suspect why he was vandalizing cars, while trying to make him understand that he was scaring people.
The man’s responses, when audible, were incomprehensible.
Rose called 911 and when the suspect heard sirens, he finally put the hammer in his backpack in an attempt to fly under the radar.
But the officers pulled over, and when they ordered him to stop, he tried to run. So they used physical force to take him down and arrest him.
Once in handcuffs, the suspect apologized to Rose and was taken to King County Jail. There is a chance he will be admitted to a hospital for mental evaluation.
The man allegedly busted the windows in 28 cars.
Police say the last time they had contact with him was in December, and it was another crisis call involving his mental state.
