MOORE, Okla. – One man is in custody after allegedly stealing an off-duty police officer’s car.

When a stolen vehicle broke down, officials with the Moore Police Department say the alleged suspect decided to steal another car.

However, that vehicle happened to belong to an off-duty police officer.

At that point, the off-duty officer flagged down a Moore police officer and told him about the theft.

After spotting the vehicle, authorities began a short pursuit, which ended near I-35 and Indian Hills Rd.

Officials say the man took off running, but was captured about three blocks away. gears

The police department says 29-year-old Michael Gears Jr. was taken into custody.  He is facing charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and eluding police officers.
