MOORE, Okla. – Court documents reveal that a chase suspect may have been on his way to court when he allegedly stole an off-duty officer’s car.

On Tuesday, documents reveal that 29-year-old Michael Gears Jr. was scheduled for a preliminary hearing conference for a grand larceny charge.

During that time, a stolen vehicle that Gears was allegedly driving broke down, according to officials with the Moore Police Department.

At that point, authorities say Gears stole a truck that belonged to an off-duty officer.

Gears was eventually arrested for charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and eluding police officers.
