In a hospital room filled with balloons, flameless candles, and the sound of Ed Sheeran’s song “Thinking Out Loud,” 24-year-old Lucas D’Onofrio patiently awaited the arrival of his 21-year-old sweetheart Tamara Bruzzo.

And in she walked, with IV pole in hand.

After being rushed to the hospital in February, Tamara was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She had to go through six 96-hour-long infusion sessions, according to an email Lucas sent to Buzzfeed.

Lucas gave his proposal speech – which is hard to hear over the music – and he can be heard saying, “I knew that we were meant to be since six years ago.”

Then he pops the question.

“Will you marry me?”

“Of course!” she answers.

The two embrace and you can hear Tamara’s sobs.

“I wanted it to be a symbol or closing the chapter of cancer in her life and opening a new chapter with our lives together,” Lucas said.

A photographer takes pictures as family members come in to congratulate the happy couple. Tamara was planning on a party to celebrate her last chemo session, but she never expected this.

The doctors said her mass went down by 70 percent after her second chemo session, so the two should be able to live happily ever after.
