Oklahoma man drowns at Lake Altus

KIOWA COUNTY, Okla. – Authorities say one person has drowned after being reported missing at Lake Altus in Kiowa County.

On Tuesday, emergency crews were called to Lake Altus after witnesses say they spotted a man struggling to swim to shore.

Witnesses say the man was originally swimming toward a toy and attempted to swim to shore.

At one point, the bystanders saw the man go under the water and he did not resurface.

On Thursday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol recovered the victim in about 10 feet of water.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Kerry Carter.
