ORLANDO, Fla. – Authorities in Florida are searching for two men who are accused of hitting a police officer with their car.

Investigators say Officer William Anderson stopped a vehicle around 2:40 a.m. for unknown reasons.

Officials say there was a shooting moments before the crash, but they have not said whether it was connected to the traffic stop.

As he approached the car, the passenger jumped out and the driver accelerated.

The car hit Anderson and drove away from the scene.

Anderson fired his weapon, but it is not known whether the bullets hit anyone in the vehicle.

“Not only is our officer hurt, this person is facing attempted murder charges as far as I’m concerned,” Chief John Mina, with the Orlando Police Department, told WFTV.

Authorities were able to find the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, but it was set on fire before it was discovered.

The officer is recovering at Orlando Regional Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.
