Nintendo, gamers mourn the death of Saturo Iwata

The video game industry is mourning the loss of one of its leading figures.

Nintendo announced the death of its CEO, Saturo Iwata.

Iwata died of cancer on Saturday at the age of 55.

Last year, Iwata missed an annual gaming convention because of ill health. But he later tweeted that he was progressing well.

Iwata is credited with Nintendo’s successful turn-around in the the early 2000s with products like the Wii and Nintendo DS consoles.

People have been paying tribute on social media.

Even Nintendo’s rival, Sony Playstation, tweeted “Thank you for everything, Mr. Iwata.”
