LOS ANGELES -  A missing girl was found locked inside the garage of a home where a convicted sex offender lived.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said the girl was reported missing by her parents in Santa Clarita on Tuesday.

She was considered a "critical missing person" because of her age and investigators immediately began trying to find her.

According to KTLA, investigators called a number found on the girl's phone records and spoke with a man named Kaene Dean.

He denied knowing the girl or her whereabouts, said Sgt. Brian Hudson, with the sheriff's department.

Dean's parents allowed deputies to search their home, where Kaene also lived, and deputies found the girl inside the garage.

Officials say the victim told deputies that shortly after meeting the 26-year-old, he took her to his parent's house and sexually assaulted her.

Dean was arrested for the alleged crime and was already listed as a sex offender following an indecent exposure conviction.
