VALLEY BROOK, Okla. -- Former Valley Brook police officer Courtney Schlinke faces 33 charges for having an alleged relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

Some of the charges the 21-year-old faces include Rape in the First Degree by Instrumentation, Oral Sodomy and Indecent or Lewd Acts with a Child.

Schlinke’s former chief says the arrest comes as a disappointment.

"Obviously it shines more negative light upon us," Valley Brook Police Chief Michael Stamp said. "Certainly, if we would have seen something like this, you know if the facts come true, she wouldn't have been hired. But there was nothing in her background that would keep her from being a policeman.”

Oklahoma City Police say they started their investigation as soon as they got word earlier this month.

"It was a family member who brought it to the attention of the police. This family member noticed that there was something, you know, just strange about the relationship," Capt. Paco Balderrama  said.

Investigators believe the alleged relationship had been going on for some time.

"We know that it transpired during the course of this last year, but it could have gone on even before then," Capt. Balderrama said.

The Valley Brook Police Department says Schlinke worked there for about seven months.

Chief Stamp says she was in the process of becoming CLEET certified when she resigned on July 20.

Stamp says his department is now working to move forward.

"This doesn't define who we are. You know, it's unfortunate. We have a good group of people here. We have good city leaders here. We are all focused on change and positive change and those things are going to take time," Chief Stamp said.

In order to protect the girl’s identity, officers are not saying how Schlinke and the teen met.

Schlinke is in the Oklahoma Jail on a $1,130,000 bond.
