ENID, Okla. – An inmate was hospitalized Monday after allegedly assaulting another inmate.

Sheriff Jerry Niles told the Enid News and Eagle that Colby Sheppard, 18, attacked another inmate with a makeshift weapon at the Garfield County Detention Facility.

“He attacked another inmate, and that inmate used self-defense to stop the aggression,” Niles told the newspaper. “The other inmate was defending himself.”

The alleged victim only suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.

However, Sheppard, the alleged instigator, was taken to the hospital for observation.

Sheppard was in jail for allegedly shooting a 17-year-old boy with intent to kill.

Officials say he is now facing additional charges after the jailhouse assault.
