AUSTIN, Tex. — Two women and a child died after a semi collision with a truck in Austin on Friday, July 24.

Investigators say a red 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was stopped in the center lane in the 8000 block of N. I-35 northbound.

A 2015 Werner 18-wheeler was driving in the same direction when police say the semi came up over a slight hill and saw the truck stopped in the center lane. Investigators say the semi driver hit the brakes, but was unable to prevent a fatal rear end collision.

Police say two passengers of the Silverado, 46-year-old Telesfora Fuentes and 24-year-old Yesenia Resendiz, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other four passengers of the truck were transported to area hospitals with both life threatening and non-life threatening injuries, officials say.

Authorities say 1-year-old Camila Resendiz died at the hospital from injuries she received in the crash.

The case is still under investigation.
