SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Authorities in California are releasing more information about the horrific murder of an 8-year-old girl.

Madyson Middleton, 8, was reported missing when she didn’t return home on Sunday after riding her scooter around her apartment complex.

On Monday night, a detective searching for Madyson found the body of a young girl in a dumpster located in the apartment complex where the little girl lived.

After the gruesome discovery, officials arrested 15-year-old Adrian Gonzalez for the crime.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Gonzalez allegedly lured Madyson up to his family’s third-floor apartment, tied her up, beat, raped and strangled the young girl.

Officials say he then dumped her body in a recycling bin at the Tannery Arts Center complex, where both the alleged suspect and victim lived.

Gonzalez was charged with murder, rape and other sex-related offenses related to the little girl’s death.

A motive for the killing has not been released.
