UPDATE: Authorities say a 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly carjacking a man and then severely beating him.

On July 28, officers were called to Melrose Ln. and Peniel Ave. after someone found a man lying in the intersection.

When officers arrived, they found 66-year-old Gayle Richard Vanek.

Investigators say he had been forced to get in the bed of his own truck near the 500 block of N. Rockwell and was driven several blocks.

At that point, they say he was beaten and left on the ground.

Authorities say Vanek died as a result of his injuries.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Marcus White, who will now be charged with first-degree murder.
