PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – When a beloved pet disappears, it can cause many families to worry.

When the Bartheleny family couldn’t find their 7-year-old Pomeranian, Fox, they became concerned.

However, they never expected to receive heartbreaking news in a cruel and taunting manner.

On Saturday, Verline Bartheleny says she received a text message from a neighbor.

“I looked at the photo, and I’m like, ‘Oh good! He found Fox.’ But then I saw the note, and it was just horrifying. I just started crying,” she told WSVN.

The little dog’s body was curled into a ball with a note attached to it.

The note read, “We beat it 2 death lol hahaha.”

The family wanted to find out what happened to Fox, so they brought his little body to the vet.

Fox's body was found with a note.

Fox’s body was found with a note.

The veterinarian found that Fox had a broken spine, broken jaw, cracked ribs, punctured lungs and a ruptured stomach.

Police say the dog may have been hit by a car, but the veterinarian disagrees.

“You would expect to see skinned knees, skinned elbows, other minor injuries that we saw no signs of,” said Dr. Ron Ridge.

The Bartheleny family is now heartbroken over the loss of their dog, and angry about how he died.

“Fox was like one of my kids. I’ve had him for a long time. It hurts,” Bartheleny said. “If someone could do that to a dog, just imagine what it could escalate to.”
