HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. – A father in Kentucky is facing murder charges after allegedly beating his 4-month-old son while he was driving.

Authorities with the Radcliff Police Department are now trying to figure out why a father would senselessly beat an infant.

“Nobody know (sic) what his motives [were],” David Trimble told WLKY.

Witnesses say Daniel Cox assaulted 4-month-old Jayceon Chrystie while driving down the highway on Thursday.

Investigators say Cox was on his way to drop Jayceon off with the child’s mother when the alleged attack occurred.

“He was hitting hard, swinging hard and, you know, the car seat had to be like this though,” Dena Stevenson said, rocking a car seat back and forth. “He was literally hitting the baby in his head or in his chest or something.”

When Cox dropped the infant off with the boy’s mother, Jayceon was not breathing and did not have a pulse.

Court documents indicate that parts of his body were bruised and he had swelling on his eye, cheek and head.

“I think he has a temper because me and him had words when I first met him right here in my driveway,” said Trimble.

“When someone does this to a 4-month-old child, it makes you angry,” said Chief Jeff Cross, with the Radcliff Police Department.

“I think whatever punishment he [gets], he really deserve (sic), ” Trimble said.
