What would you do if you saw an American flag on the ground, in the rain?

One Kentucky man didn’t stop and wonder what to do. He took action.

Security footage from a bank shows Michael Pritchard standing in the pouring rain, folding the flag.

“It was just the right thing to do. There was a need that needed to be attended to,” Pritchard said.

Pritchard told WPSD that he was on his way home from church when he saw the fallen flag.

“I don’t know how long it had been laying there or anything, but I knew it didn’t need to be where it was,” Pritchard said.

Pritchard pulled over so he could pick up the flag and fold it.

He says he learned how to fold a flag in fifth grade.

While many think a flag has to be burned after it touches the ground, the Boy Scouts say that is a misconception.

If it’s still in good condition, it must be properly cleaned before it is raised again.

The bank plans to lay the flag out to dry before raising it again.
