Tulsa officer shot by alleged suspect

TULSA, Okla. – A police officer in Tulsa is recovering after being shot during a chase this weekend.

Authorities say Crpl. Gene Watkins was part of a team that was working to serve a warrant for 35-year-old Jeremie Kelly.

On Sunday, officers told KJRH that they saw Kelly in a vehicle.

As police tried to pull him over, Kelly took off and led them on a chase.

Eventually, he abandoned the vehicle, but continued running from police.

At that point, authorities say Kelly shot Watkins in the leg.

Police say after being barricaded in a house for several hours, Kelly shot and killed himself.

Officials say Watkins is expected to make a full recovery.
