MCCURTAIN COUNTY, Okla. — A man drowned in Mountain Fork River Wednesday, officials say.

Kye Nam Hwang, 46, of Lewisville, Tex., was fishing in the river around 1:30 p.m. when he allegedly went to the water’s edge to splash water on his face. That’s when reports say he slipped into the water.

Hwang couldn’t swim and wasn’t able to pull himself out of the water, officials say.

A witness says they tried to help Hwang, but were unable to because of slippery moss and the drop off.

The victim went under water and never resurfaced.

Hwang’s body was recovered by the Broken Bow Fire Department at 4:13 p.m.
