Christian Costello arraignment

OKLAHOMA CITY-Christian Costello was denied bond at a hearing Tuesday in connection with the stabbing death of his father, Oklahoma Labor Commissioner, Mark Costello.

Christian Costello appeared nearly emotionless as he appeared before Special Judge Russell Hall. He listened to the charge and bond was denied.

Christian,26, is charged with the first-degree murder of his father Mark Costello.

Police say the two had agreed to meet on Sunday at an Oklahoma City Braum’s. Witnesses say Christian attacked his father with a knife and stabbed him repeatedly. Mark Costello tried to get away and ran to the parking lot, but the attack continued. Costello died from his injuries.

‘He was completely calm and that`s what was eerie about the whole thing,” a witness told News Channel 4.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner said his cause of death is stab wounds of neck and the manner of death is homicide.

The family said that Christian suffered from mental illness and that his family had tried to help and support him.

Psychiatrist Dr. Willis Holloway Jr. says that could be why he has appeared so calm.

“For certain disease states there are individuals who lack empathy and they lack the same ability for caring and concern,” Dr. Holloway said.

Then again, Dr. Holloway says that may not be the case.

“Even though it may seem bizarre to some of us. If people feel that they have a grievance. Whatever the grievance might be. Even if the grievance may seem ill legitimate to us. Then in their own mind they feel justified in taking whatever action they need to take,” Dr. Holloway said.
