NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio – The first day of school can be tough for a lot of young children.

Charlee Winebrenner’s first day of kindergarten was especially difficult.

Last November, her father, Officer Justin Winebrenner,  was shot and killed inside Papa Don’s Pub in Akron while trying to protect customers from a gunman.

Since Justin wasn’t there to walk his little girl to her first day of school on Thursday, his brothers in blue did it for him.

Charlee was escorted to her school by others in uniform from all across the state, according to WEWS.

They say it was their way of showing that they will not forget about her father or his family.
