CHEROKEE COUNTY, Okla. — There was a drowning at Fort Gibson Lake.

Officials say the incident happened Saturday near Paradise Cove.

They got a call around 8 p.m. that a man “entered the water and never resurfaced.”

A witness said the man jumped into the water. Reports say he was struggling to keep his head above water, so people tried to help.

Their efforts were unsuccessful and the man never resurfaced.

While troopers searched for the man Saturday night, the search was suspended and started again Sunday morning.

Crews recovered the body of 38-year-old David Villicana around 4:30  p.m. Sunday.

He was pronounced dead on the scene and was transported to the medical examiner.
