Oklahoma's offense started slowly, but got rolling in the middle two quarters in the season opener against Akron on Saturday night, September 5, on their way to a 41-3 rout.

Two Sooners made their long awaited OU debuts and had record setting performances.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 388 yards, a record for an OU season opener, while running back Joe Mixon had 115 yards receiving, including a 76-yard touchdown catch that was the longest by a freshman running back in Sooner history.

Next up for OU is a showdown at Tennessee next Saturday at 5:00 at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
