OKLAHOMA CITY - A 5-year old boy and a truck collided in the parking lot of a metro preschool Tuesday morning.

The driver of the pick-up is now in jail.

Police said the call came in just after 8 a.m. It was a busy time in the morning, when kids were getting dropped off for school at Oklahoma Educare.

Melissa Ramon was there when it happened and, like many other parents, watched the scene unfold to make sure the little boy was okay.

“I walked my daughter to class,  and they said he’s in kindergarten, in her class,” said Ramon.

Her daughter also saw the whole thing happen.

“I just seen the little boy walking across the street. He looked both ways and, then, that truck tapped him. I didn’t think it hit,” she said.

Police said the boy was running across the drop-off lane, when he ran into the side of the pickup truck. They say the truck was moving slowly.

“After striking the vehicle, he fell to the ground. One of the tires scraped his leg, causing an abrasion. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured or run over by the vehicle, which could have easily happened in that situation,” said Gary Knight, OKCPD.

The child was taken to an area hospital to be checked out, but appears to only have suffered the knee abrasion. Those watching are thankful it was only a close call.

“It could have been a lot worse. Watch your kids as they’re walking across the street,” said Ramon.

The driver of the black pickup truck, Rosalea Ladin, was taken to jail. She was arrested for not having a driver’s license.
