VAUGHAN, Ont. – A family in Ontario is grieving after three children and their grandfather were killed by a suspected drunk-driving crash.
Daniel Neville-Lake, 9, his little brother Harry, 5, their sister Milly, 2, and their 65-year-old grandfather, Gary Neville, were killed when the van they were riding was struck by an SUV in Vaughan, Ontario, CTV News reports.
Marco Muzzo, 29, the driver of the SUV, was arrested at the scene.
The children’s mother says she learned about the crash via television.
According to the Toronto Sun, when she saw a clip of their minivan on television, she knew something was wrong.
She reached out to her local police department and a police officer came to her house to pick her up.
“It’s like the worst nightmare, as a daughter, as a parent, to have to go through. It was caused by someone’s stupidity. It kills me.” the children’s mother, Jennifer Neville-Lake, said.
According to the National Post, Neville-Lake says the two youngest siblings died together at the hospital, holding hands, as their grandmother sang to them over the phone.
Muzzo is now facing 18 charges in connection to the crash, including impaired driving and dangerous driving causing death.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family pay for funeral costs.
In just 2 days, the family exceeded their $5,000 goal and has almost raised $200,000.
