BROOKLYN, N.Y. - A 37-year-old Israeli man is dead following an accident with an elevator at a luxury apartment complex in Brooklyn.
According to police, Eran Modan was crushed to death between the floor and the bottom of the elevator.
Officers say they found Modan with "trauma to the head and torso" just after 4:15 a.m. on Friday.
Herlang says that people may have exceeded the elevator's posted weight limit of 2,100 pounds.
"From what I heard, like 15 people were in the elevator," he said. "If they overloaded it, something could have happened."
However, witnesses claim the elevator simply dropped while Moran was inside it.
The New York Daily News reports that friends said that Modan had just stepped onto the elevator when it dropped with the doors still open.
According to WPIX, the elevator has been the subject of several violations and complaints. Many of which focus on elevator doors opening only half way and shaking when approaching floors.
