OKLAHOMA CITY – Homes were evacuated after a gas line ruptured in northwest Oklahoma City.

Around 8:45 a.m., fire crews were alerted to a 2 inch medium pressure gas line that ruptured in a back yard in the 6800 block of N.W. 131st St.

According to Benny Fulkerson with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, a contractor struck the line while installing a new pool.

Fulkerson says homes in the area were evacuated as a safety precaution.

ONG shut the gas off until they could repair the line.
