NASSAU, Bahamas – This adopted pet raccoon thinks she is just one of the dogs.

Last year, Rosie Kemp found a baby raccoon with a broken leg in her backyard.

Kemp told The Dodo that when the raccoon’s mother never showed up, she decided that the tiny cub’s best chance at life was in her care.

Day one!

Kemp and her daughter, Laura Young, named the raccoon Pumpkin, and raised the cub with their two rescue dogs.

“She instantly bonded with us and our two rescue dogs and follows me and our two dogs everywhere we go,” Young said. “She now thinks she is a dog … she is able to play and be rough with them and she respects them when they have had enough.”

Young says the clever animal has even learned how to use the toilet.

But, having a pet raccoon does have its downsides.

“Raccoons are NOT pets,” Young explained. “They are wild animals, so they are quite moody. Unlike dogs and cats, they are not domesticated. Like a spoilt child if she doesn’t get her way, she will let you know.”
