ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A fifth grade girl may be facing criminal assault charges after a video started circulating on social media of an alleged attack on an elementary school playground, KSHB reports.

Police say an 11-year-old girl was arrested after cellphone video showed her attack another student on the playground.

In the video, you can see one of the girls holding onto a piece of playground equipment while another girl attempts to drag her away by the hair.

The 11-year-old repeatedly punches and kicks the other girl throughout the video.

The school district confirmed with KSHB that the student in question was arrested for assault.

The school district says the incident happened after the school day had ended.

“The St. Joseph School District does not condone this type of behavior no matter when it occurs,” the district said in a statement. “… It is important that we partner with parents and community members to prevent bullying and fighting no matter what time it occurs. One of our district priorities is to keep our students safe and educate them with programs designed to eradicate bullying.”

According to KSHB, the district is trying to determine what to do with the other children involved.
