FRESNO, Calif. – Victor Bejarano has never gone down without a fight.
Bejarano, a 73-year-old veteran, was recently attacked while shopping at an auto parts store.
“I never knew there was anything wrong until the girl started coming up towards me,” Bejarano told KSEE. “When she asked me for the wallet, I just said, ‘No way. I’m not going to give you my wallet.”
At that point, the woman began attacking him.
“Trying to get that girl away from me, that’s all. I didn’t want to hit her. I didn’t want to punch her. I didn’t want to do none of that,” he said.
The pair continued to struggle for a few minutes outside, before it escalated inside the AutoZone.
“He was screaming for help, asking us to call the cops. She just kept fighting him, trying to steal his wallet,” a witness said.
Witnesses called police, but the fight continued.
“At one point, he gets away from her and is able to get out the back door,” Sgt. Mark Hudson, with the Fresno Police Department, said. “She again assaults this elderly man, outside the store, trying to take his money and wallet.”
A witness intervened, telling the woman that police are on their way.
“I got to tell you, she was pretty tough,” Bejarano said.
Bejarano kept his wallet and the woman left empty-handed.
“If she would’ve asked me for money and say it’s because she’s got kids, I probably would’ve given her ten bucks,” he said.
