OKLAHOMA CITY -- Two people were found dead in the backyard of a northwest Oklahoma City home Tuesday morning.

A quiet morning on N.W. 21st was interrupted by gunfire. The alarming sound was heard all around the neighborhood.

Police are still piecing together what happened, but they believe it was a murder-suicide.

The bodies of a man and a woman were discovered when officers showed up to investigate a call about shots being fired.

Police say the man who was shot to death lived at the scene of the crime.

Police say the woman found shot dead next to the man is their only suspect.

Names of those involved have not yet been released.

Moses Belasco was working at a home down the street.

“We heard  six shots, maybe I think, I heard the noise, and I said something happened,” Belasco said.

Others heard the shots, too, and police showed up around 8 a.m. to the 3100 block of N.W. 21st.

“When officers were going through the area trying to figure out where the shots came from, they were flagged down by a person out here in the street. They were led to a backyard where there are two bodies,” MSgt. Gary Knight said.

The bodies were lying next to each other.

“It really is a quiet neighborhood. It’s kind of a sign of the times, it doesn’t make any difference if you live in a poor neighborhood, Gaillardia, a nice neighborhood like this, things happen,” Larry Elliott said.

Elliott’s family owns the house next door.

He told us the man who lived at the home where the crime happened was divorced, but Elliott had seen both the man and his ex-wife outside before.

“I can pretty well tell it was a domestic type issue, someone shot someone else, and killed them, turned the gun on themselves, in all likelihood,” Elliott said.

That’s what police will be looking at as their homicide investigation moves forward.

Right now, police won’t confirm the relationship between the man and woman, but police say it’s an isolated situation.

The bodies are at the Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
