OKLAHOMA CITY - Police are looking for a man who attacked a woman at knife point in a N.W. Oklahoma City parking garage.
It happened just before 8:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Dowell Center Parking Garage at 4th Street and N. Harvey.
"It was just very unsettling for me," Laura McCorkle said.
McCorkle said she was headed to work when she heard a curdling scream in the parking lot.
"And, all of a sudden, again and screamed, 'He has a knife,'" McCorkle said.
Police said a man approached a young woman from behind with a knife and covered her mouth.
Officers said the shrill screams scared him off.
Before he made it out of the building, McCorkle came face-to-face with the suspect.
"I turned around, and I just yelled, 'Hey!'" McCorkle said. "When he turned around to me, he had a knife in his right hand. He threw his hood over his head and covered his eyes, and he started running towards the bus station."
McCorkle then rushed to the woman’s aid.
"She said she needed a cell phone to call police,” McCorkle said.
The victim dialed 911 and told them what happened.
"He had come up behind her and put his hand over her mouth and had the knife and told her to bend over," McCorkle said. "At that point, she said she reacted and just shoved him and caught him off guard, and that's when she was able to scream that he had a knife. So, that was really a blessing that she thought of that."
NewsChannel 4 showed McCorkle a surveillance photo police released Friday.
She told us it is the same man she saw running from the parking garage.
While officers look for him, she is sharing a message.
"Alerted everyone I know, because I know a lot of people who park in that parking lot," McCorkle said. "It's scary to know that it could have happened to any of them."
The suspect is described as a man who is about 6’0 with dark hair and facial hair.
McCorkle said he is thin and has bad teeth.
If you recognize him, call Crime Stoppers at 405-235-7300.
