OKLAHOMA CITY - A husband is behind bars after authorities say he shot and killed his wife.
Authorities were called to a home near S.E. 59th St. and Dobbs Rd., in southeast Oklahoma City, after the man claimed he shot his wife.
Neighbors reported hearing a couple arguing on the roof of the home, adding that the woman was yelling at her husband to leave her alone.
"When you see a bunch of vehicles with their lights on, you know the overheads, you know something's amiss," said Bill Olsen.
Bill Olsen was home with his son and his son's girlfriend when they heard a commotion a few doors down.
"She said she heard somebody yelling and screaming for help, a female voice," said Olsen.
Oklahoma City police say it was around 6 p.m. Sunday night when they got the call from 30-year-old Humberto Diaz.
According to authorities, Diaz called them and admitted to shooting and killing his wife, 26-year-old Rebecca Diaz-Martinez.
Police said this isn't the first time they've responded to this home for disturbances.
"I think we do have some previous calls for some mental health issues and some domestics," said Lt. Alan Burgett, with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Some residents said they've noticed a spike in domestic violence.
"It's becoming a common thing I think. I just hear about it all over the country," said Olsen.
Now, residents are hoping people in similar situations will reach out to family, friends or crisis centers.
"I think they're afraid, maybe of retaliation, or just nervous about making the call in the first place," said Olsen.
Neighbors tell us the couple had several kids, who were removed from the home by DHS.
"I'm sure they'll find a better place to live. Someone will love them and take care of them," said Olsen.
Diaz was booked in Oklahoma County Jail and is facing a charge of first-degree murder.
Police are still trying to figure out why he allegedly murdered his wife.
