OKLAHOMA CITY - A metro mother was arrested for allegedly driving drunk, but police say they were shocked when they found precious cargo in the backseat of her car.
She had her three children in tow.
Police say Diana Duque absolutely should not have been behind the wheel, and when officers did arrest her, things got heated.
It all started with a late night wreck at S.E. 25th and Byers.
Police say a car was at a stop sign on S.E. 25th headed east when it was rear-ended by a Chevy Impala.
Investigators say 34-year-old Diana Duque was behind the wheel with her children ages 5, 6, and 14 in the car.
“She was so intoxicated she was having trouble walking or even doing anything. She was not in any condition to be operating a motor vehicle,” MSgt. Gary Knight said.
We’re told the officer opened the driver’s door and said he was immediately hit with an overwhelming smell of alcohol.
Police say Duque was talking loudly and her speech was slurred.
She said she’d just left a birthday party.
The officer told Duque to get out of the car for a field sobriety test. He said she was swaying in every direction.
“She began cursing at the officer, became combative with the officer. Once she got to the jail, she was the same with the jail staff there,” MSgt. Knight said.
While still at the scene, police say the woman was so intoxicated the officer had to catch her when she almost fell.
She reportedly told police “she was upset that other women were flirting with her husband,” who was also in the car.
On the way to the county jail, a police report shows Duque screamed, “the last time she was arrested… [the officer] got fired for touching her vagina and breast,” and she threatened to get this officer fired too.
The policeman said Duque wasn’t making any sense and eventually threw up in the back of the patrol car.
The kids were turned over to a responsible adult.
Duque is free on bail and facing charges of child endangerment, DUI, and careless driving.
