Man arrested after body found in Newcastle ditch

NEWCASTLE, Okla. – An arrest was made overnight in the homicide of a man found in Newcastle on Thursday evening, according to officials.

Stephen Wineland, 23, was booked into the McClain County jail on a complaint of first degree murder.

The victim of the homicide, who died of a gunshot wound, is identified as Michael Martinez.

A Newcastle police officer on routine patrol discovered Martinez’s body in a ditch of the northbound service road in the 900 block of N.E. 31st Street.

Both men resided in the Oklahoma City area.

They were acquaintances.

Wineland was arrested after a brief pursuit with police in the area of the 1000 block of S.W. 30 in Oklahoma City.
