ESTILL SPRINGS, Tenn. – An 11-year-old girl died after being shot by a classmate.

According to WSMV, 11-year-old Sienna Dusk Owens was shot in the back around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Authorities say a 12-year-old boy, who is also a classmate of Owens, pulled the trigger.

However, it is not known whether the shooting was intentional or an accident.

Now, friends and staff at North Middle School are dealing with the loss.

“If you’d see her walking down the hallway, you’d wait for her to get to you so you’d get an opportunity to talk to her and see the smile she had,” Stanley Bean, the school’s principal, said.

Recently, staff at the Rain Tree Center, where Sienna often spent her time, found the last message she ever wrote.

“The fact that she wrote ‘God is my favorite’ just lets us know that what we were set out to do, it’s working for somebody, just a really sweet little girl,” said Jessica May, the director of the center.

Now, it is up to the district attorney whether any charges will be filed in the case.
