CLARKSDALE, Miss. – The National Weather Service issued an alert for several towns in Mississippi after a large and dangerous tornado touched down.

According to CNN, there are reports of major damage to homes in Sardis.

On Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a tornado emergency for the area, meaning significant damage and fatalities are likely.

So far, the storm system is responsible for at least one death.

An 18-year-old woman in Arkansas died Wednesday when a tree fell through her roof. Four other people in the house, including a toddler, survived.
