OKLAHOMA - A donation in Chickasha has raised the Christmas spirit to an all time high.

Now, the Salvation Army just wishes they knew who to thank.

It's a sound now synonymous with the holidays.

The Salvation Army bell ringers are seemingly a beacon for giving across the nation.

In Chickasha, though, these beacons attracted a donation that's making headlines.

"We heard a coin fall to the table," said Lt. Alan Grimes, who helped count the coins on Monday. "I knew it was a different sounding coin than we've had."

Resembling a chocolate coin stocking stuffer, the currency didn't match the batch.

Upon further investigation, Grimes found it was a rare, solid gold 'Liberty' coin, valued at close to $1,500.

"I was definitely shocked. I was surprised." Grimes said. "I was just in awe of a donor who would donate that coin."

This donor, though, remains a mystery.

They left behind no note, no explanation and the Salvation Army is giving nothing but thanks back.

"I'd like to say, 'Thank you,' whoever it is," Grimes said.

What's more, the donation may help to push the branch over the edge, closing in on their yearly goal.

"We're hoping to find someone who's really a collector of coins, that really sees the value of the coin and the gold together," Grimes said. "That way, we can raise our funds, so we can hit our goal of $30,000."

For security purposes, officials are not disclosing exactly where the coin was donated, only stating it's somewhere between Grady and Caddo counties.

They're currently in the process of finding someone to purchase the coin.
