West Virginia Wears Down Cowboys in Morgantown

Oklahoma State’s men’s basketball team, playing short-handed once again, lost at 17th-ranked West Virginia 77-60 on Saturday afternoon, January 9, in Morgantown, West Virginia.

OSU never led in the game and trailed by as many as 23 points.

The Cowboys actually outshot the Mountaineers, 43 percent to 39 percent, but OSU had 16 turnovers and attempted 15 fewer shots than WVU.

Freshman Juwan Evans led the Cowboys with 13 points, with Jeff Newberry scorng 12 and hitting three 3-pointers.

Jeffrey Carroll was also in double figures with 10 points.

OSU trailed by 12 at halftime and battled foul trouble, with Leyton Hammonds, Chris Olivier, and Mitchell Solomon all fouling out.

Oklahoma State was playing without guard Phil Forte, who will likely not play the rest of the season with an elbow injury.

Also out were Tyree Griffin, who sat out after suffering a concussion recently, and Anthony Allen, who was suspended for violating team rules.

The Cowboys fell to 9-6 overall, and 1-2 in conference play.

OSU’s next game is at home Wednesday, January 13 against Oklahoma at 8:00 pm.
