CAMDEN, N.J. - A father is accused of murdering his 3-year-old son because his teenage girlfriend didn't like having a young child around, prosecutors claim.

Authorities arrested 22-year-old David Creato, Jr. in connection with 3-year-old Brendan Creato's death last fall.

WPIX reports that the boy's body was found Oct. 13, partially submerged in the water at a park near his home.

Prosecutors claim that Creato began dating a 17-year-old girl last summer who didn't like the child.

The girlfriend went away to college and, according to prosecutors, became upset that Creato had custody of his son every other weekend, limiting their time together.

Creato claims that he did not harm the boy, saying the child must have unlocked the door and wandered away from home on his own.

Creato was arrested and arraigned on murder and child endangerment charges.
