35-year-old American artist Ashley Olsen was found dead in her apartment in Florence, Italy.

FLORENCE, Italy – Investigators have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the death of an American woman in Florence.

On Saturday, 35-year-old Ashley Olsen was found dead in her apartment after her boyfriend had been unable to reach her.

Police determined that Olsen had been strangled to death by something “other than bare hands” and she had two skull fractures.

Authorities arrested Cheikh Tidiane Diaw at his home on Wednesday night, chief prosecutor Giuseppe Creazzo announced.

According to CNN, DNA evidence linked to Diaw was found in a condom and on a cigarette at Olsen’s apartment, where Diaw’s fingerprints were also found.

Police say Diaw had taken Olsen’s phone and put his SIM card in it and was using the device when he was arrested.

Investigators believe Olsen and Diaw met at a nightclub and went back to Olsen’s apartment, where they had consensual sex.

The woman’s friends told investigators they were with Olsen at the nighclub on Thursday night and left her there between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday.
